Great Britain league boss Brian Noble has been given approval to pick New Zealander Henry Paul for the 2006 Tri-Nations series.
Paul, 32, made 24 appearances for the Kiwis before switching to rugby in July 2001.
He qualifies for the Lions because he has a grandfather from Liverpool and also because he played for the England rugby union side.
"I will look at anyone if they can add something to the squad and they are interested," Noble told the Times newspaper. "Henry stamps all the right categories. It's a question of how quickly he gets back up to speed."
