"The Titans have not been in negotiation with any other club regarding the future of Jarryd Hayne.
"There has been no application made for Jarryd to be released from his Titans contract.
"It is the Titans expectation that Jarryd will return for pre season training after his World Cup commitments with Fiji, and his annual leave entitlements, have been completed.
"The club will not be making any further comment on the matter unless any of the above circumstances unexpectedly change."
Hayne is off contract at the end of next season, and as of Tuesday was able to enter in negotiations with other clubs for 2019.
"We haven't been asked for a release from Jarryd Hayne, so there's nothing I can add to it," Annesley said.
"It's completely blindsided me, the whole story."
Hayne's Sydney options next year already appear limited.
South Sydney, Penrith and Newcastle have already declared they're not interested.
"(Kalyn) Ponga is going to be our fullback so we are very settled there," Knights coach Nathan Brown told AAP.
Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe is overseas but it's understood Hayne may not be considered an ideal fit for the club.
Parramatta were also not interested in his services earlier this year when the star fullback flirted with the idea of moving back to Sydney.
The Eels already have Bevan French and Clinton Gutherson who can play fullback.
Hayne, 29, has only been on the Gold Coast for 15 months, after he returned from overseas stints in the NFL and rugby sevens.
The NSW centre had originally expressed a disappointment he had not been able to return to the Eels when he originally signed with the Titans in 2015.
His 2017 season ended on a sour note after he had a public falling out with coach Neil Henry, before the veteran mentor was sacked by the club.
New Titans coach Garth Brennan has already spoken about the manner in which he will need to handle the two-time Dally M medallist.
