The Kiwis could be stripped of the points they won for defeating Great Britain in Saturday's tri-nations match, after questions were raised over the eligibility of Australian-born player Nathan Fien.
Fien took part in the Kiwis' 18-14 win over the Lions and rugby league officials will examine the matter after it was revealed Fien was selected on the basis of a New Zealand-born great-grandmother.
Rules stipulate Fien would only be eligible to play for the Kiwis if he had a grandparent born in New Zealand - not a great-grandparent.
Mount Isa-born Fien has admitted he does not have a New Zealand grandparent as earlier claimed.
A Rugby League International Federation hearing is taking place this morning to consider what action to take against New Zealand for playing Fien.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand TAB has suspended betting on the tri-nations league event, until a decision from the hearing clarifies the Kiwis' points position.
