St George Illawarra league chief executive Peter Doust admits he spoke to Lance Thompson about a career after football, but denies it was ever included in his contract.
Doust confronted claims from the former Dragons backrower yesterday that the club had assured him a A$100,000 ($111,856) a year post-football job in return for taking a $200,000 pay cut in 2005.
The Dragons boss wouldn't categorically deny Thompson's claims, conceding his future was often discussed but an agreement never existed on paper.
