KEY POINTS:
Warriors skipper Steve Price believes Wayne Bennett is interested in coaching the Kiwis because he wants to see New Zealand fulfil its potential.
The Brisbane Broncos mentor is the favourite to be offered the position after Gary Kemble walked away from the job at the weekend.
Price has been coached by Bennett at both State of Origin and international level and is well aware what his strengths are.
Price said Bennett believes the Kiwis have been held back in the past because of either coaching or management deficiencies, and if Bennett is appointed he will make sure the Kiwis are aware of who and what they are playing for.
He added Bennett has always been up for a challenge and if Bennett feels he can make a difference in that area he is sure he will be successful.
Price is keen to see the New Zealand Rugby League's fortunes turn around before this year's World Cup.
The Kangaroos prop could be forgiven for revelling in the Kiwis' woes but he says it is not good to see the NZRL in such a state.
Price said the NZRL has to turn itself around for the good of everyone in rugby league.
He said whatever it takes to fix the organisation, whether it be appointing Wayne Bennett or making changes to the board, it has to happen quickly.
