Amateur rugby league player Michael Strickland has received a two-year ban for purchasing clenbuterol, back dated to late May 2017.
Strickland's was the fifth case presented to the Sport Tribunal of New Zealand arising from a Medsafe investigation into online supplier NZ Clenbuterol.
Strickland admitted to purchasing the clenbuterol to aid weight loss, but said he didn't use the product. He said he was unaware it was a prohibited substance.
Strickland was provisionally suspended on March 27. On May 14, Drug Free Sport New Zealand and Strickland filed a joint memorandum to the Sports Tribunal of New Zealand proposing an appropriate sanction of two years.
The Tribunal handed down a two year ban, back dated to start on May 27, 2017.
