The ex-partner of Bryce Cartwright has been charged after targeting the NRL star in a revenge porn attack and threatening to kill him.
Lewd photos of Cartwright were posted on social media by his former girlfriend Brittany Hura in apparent revenge for the breakdown of their six-year relationship.
NSW police said they had arrested a 24-year-old woman from Constitution Hill and charged her with stalk/intimidate with intent to cause fear or physical harm and using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend.
She was bailed to appear next Tuesday in Penrith Local Court.
"Police take all reports of intimidation and harassment seriously and encourage any person who believes they are being targeted to come forward and make a report so it can be investigated," a police spokeswoman said.
Panthers chief executive Bryan Fletcher said the incident had been referred to police after her erratic behaviour escalated at the weekend.
"This is now a NSW Police matter. We are most appreciative of the swift response by NSW Police to this situation," Fletcher said.
"The priority of Panthers is to ensure the protection, safety and wellbeing of Bryce, his partner and his family. We are affording Bryce all the support we can during this difficult time.
"The club will be making no further comment until NSW Police have concluded their investigations."
Hura posted nude photos of the 22-year-old Panthers' playmaker on Twitter over the weekend, apparently in revenge after he began seeing another woman.
She also posted a video on Facebook threatening to kill Cartwright.
"You think I'm laughing because I'm mentally f***ed up?," she said in the video, which had since been deleted.
"I'm not mentally f***ed up I'm just laughing at you ... you're going to be dead soon.
"In the grave ... six feet under."
Hura said she was aggrieved after Cartwright began dating another woman.
Cartwright is considered one the of rising stars of the NRL and recently penned a three-year contract extension.
He was recently named in the NSW Blues' emerging squad and is expected to push this year for a maiden State of Origin jumper.
Speaking on Australian radio show Triple M's Summer Grill on Tuesday morning, former Panthers centre Ryan Girdler said the incident was a reminder to all athletes about the need to be wary when you're in the public eye.
"A woman scorned," Girdler said. "It's a bit of a lesson isn't it for the young guys coming through.
"If you're in the public domain, you're sort of public property in a sense and if you're in a long-term relationship and you think you're possibly never going to break up, you just need to be careful with what you do, because it's news.
"The fact we're talking about it today and it's in the paper means people are interested and you need to be careful with social media and Facebook and what you do in your private time."
"I don't understand the obsession with getting your phone out and taking photos of yourself with no clothes on, I really don't understand it," co-host Emma Freedman added.
Hura's social media accounts have since been deactivated and the video where she threatened to kill Cartwright has been deleted.
Cartwright and Brittany Hura allegedly split because of the presence of another woman. Hura uploaded a photo on Sunday with "RIP" tattooed on her back below a tattoo of "Bryce".
Cartwright's manager Allan Gainey told The Daily Telegraph Hura was just acting out as a "jilted lover".
"This is nothing more than a jilted lover," Gainey said. "I understand her Facebook has been shut down and I know she has been warned multiple times ... She is very troubled."
Hura posted a string of social media posts earlier in November appearing to out her former partner for cheating.
"You can call me a slag, crazy, psycho, liar or b***h ... but is that honestly fair?" she wrote. "It's not just about me ... it's about all females. Men should not be allowed to get away with this."
