Wellington's Robbie Ale has been recalled to the Manu Samoa rugby squad after tighthead prop Fosi Pala'amo was ruled out for the World Cup.
Pala'amo, who should have been playing for North Harbour in the NPC competition, yesterday underwent a scan to his damaged knee which revealed severe medial ligament damage.
He will have a full knee reconstruction within the next 10 days and won't play until next year.
"It is really unfortunate for Fosi, who was developing into a world class prop," Samoan coach Bryan Williams said.
But his loss is a gain for Ale, who was first selected for Manu Samoa three years ago.
Ale played for Taranaki in the 1997 NPC and operates both at loosehead and tighthead.
He has played 17 matches, including two tests, for Manu Samoa.
