Eden Park's goalposts sold on Trade Me last night for $15,050 to an
Australian using the buyer name Bob Dwyer.
This is also the name of the coach of the 1991 World Cup-winning Wallabies.
The Eden Park Trust is donating the money from the auction to help victims of the Canterbury earthquake. Trust chief executive David Kennedy says just one problem remains Bob Dwyer the famous one or not: Getting the posts, which weigh 700kg each, to Australia "without paying a bundle in excess baggage."
Mr Kennedy said that with almost 35,000 page views, the auction had generated a lot of interest in the major changes at Eden Park, which will be officially reopened by Prime Minister John Key next Sunday, with a huge range of entertainments also planned for the public open day.
