KEY POINTS:
Speculation is growing that Grant Fox will take over the comments role on Sky TV's rugby coverage from his recently deceased former team-mate, John Drake.
Fox, whose last TV gig was at the 2007 World Cup for TV3, has been a comments man before and was apparently approached for the role. A spokesman for Sky TV could not be contacted yesterday to be asked if Fox had accepted it.
Drake, 49, died while cleaning his swimming pool at his home in Mt Maunganui on December 13 and his funeral a few days later was heavily attended and screened on Sky.
His death brought many accolades, not least of which was Drake's insightful comments in live rugby coverage.
Fox was involved with coaching Auckland rugby in 1999 and 2002-2003, as well as with the Blues, and was a key member of the record-breaking Auckland rugby team of the mid-80s to the early-90s.
He was a pivotal figure in the All Blacks' first and only win of the Rugby World Cup in 1987.
He scored 645 points for the All Blacks in 46 test matches. In 303 first class matches he scored a record 4112 points, of which 2746 came in 189 games for Auckland.
