They played a world record 61 tests together but Conrad Smith had little trouble deceiving Ma'a Nonu with a dummy on the way to a try in their first match against each other since the World Cup final.
Smith, playing for Pau, wrong-footed his former All Blacks and Hurricanes teammate Nonu, playing for Toulon, on the way to a jinking run to the line in the French Top 14 competition match at the Stade Mayol this morning. Another former All Black, Tom Taylor, could do little to stop Smith at fullback.
However, Nonu had the last laugh against his former midfield partner, with his Toulon side holding off Pau 21-17. : Former Wallaby James O'Connor scored two tries for Toulon. Former All Black Colin Slade played at No10 for Pau.
