Transtasman rower Shaun Quincey is in good spirits after several sleepless nights dodging shipping lanes, battling lightning storms and high seas.
The solo Trans Tasman rower is now 250 nautical miles off the Australian coast and making the most of the "perfect rowing conditions".
Quincey is following in his father's footsteps. He is the son of Colin Quincey who was the first and only man to row on his own across the Tasman in 1977.
The 24-year-old Aucklander left Coffs Harbour last Wednesday and has already experienced thunderstorms at sea.
He described a storm last night as "amazing. Felt like i was in a battlefield" on his twitter page.
"Perfect morning for rowing energized on porridge & canola oil...yummy!" Quincey wrote.
His land support team posted an update on their website this morning and said Quincey is travelling south towards an easterly flow.
