KEY POINTS:
New Zealand scullers Emma Twigg and Candice Hammond qualified for semifinals as New Zealand's good form at the World Cup rowing regatta in Munich continued yesterday.
Olympic-bound sculler Twigg was untroubled in winning her quarterfinal in 8m 36.58s, the sixth fastest time overall to advance to the semis today. The time was 7s slower than was needed to win yesterday's heat.
Lightweight single sculler Hammond was fourth in her heat yesterday but looked relaxed today in winning her repechage in 9m 04.29s. Hammond was to be contesting the lightweight double this week but crewmate Louise Ayling is injured.
The regatta is the first major meet of the European season and has attracted a small New Zealand contingent. Hammond and Ayling, men's lightweight double Peter Taylor and Storm Uru, and the women's eight are preparing for the final Olympic qualifying regatta in Poznan, Poland next month.
Taylor and Uru finished fifth in their quarterfinal, which sees them qualify for the C final. The women's eight were fourth in their heat today in 6m 54.61s and will contest the repechages today.
The eight are: Jane Feathery, Harriet Austin, Anna Reymer, Paula Twining, Simone Hudson, Erin Tolhurst, Fiona Paterson, Rebecca Scown and cox Rachel Goudie.
On Friday, lightweight men's world champion Peter Grant put recent injury worries behind him to comfortably win his heat and advance to the semifinals of his non-Olympic class.
