Kiwi gold medal favourite Robbie Manson has kept effort to a bare minimum in advancing to the single sculls semi-finals at the rowing world championships in Florida.
Manson was third in his quarter-final and just the 12th fastest of 24 contenders in Sarasota on Thursday (NZT) but it was enough to reach the next stage on Saturday.
Needing a top three finish, Manson nestled comfortably behind behind the race winner, Cuban two-time world championships singles medallist Angel Fournier Rodriguez, and Croatian Damir Martin, the man pipped dramatically for gold by Kiwi great Mahe Drysdale at last year's Olympics.
With Drysdale taking the year off, Manson burst spectacularly onto the singles stage, winning both World Cup regattas entered and clocking a world best time in Poland in June.
A rib injury has hampered the 27-year-old's buildup but he will hope to unearth his best in the final on Monday (NZT).
