New Zealand's top women's single sculler Emma Twigg has had to return home from Europe due to illness.
Twigg, who was with the national rowing squad competing in World Cup rounds in Europe, flew home on Saturday.
She withdrew from last week's Henley Royal Regatta where she was due to defend her single sculls title.
The New Zealand team are due to compete at the third and final World Cup round in Lausanne, Switzerland, this weekend.
Rowing New Zealand chief executive Simon Peterson told NZPA today Twigg had returned home to the Hawke's Bay where she was seeing her doctor.
Peterson said Twigg had decided to skip the Swiss event and return home after consulting national coach Dick Tonks and Rowing NZ high performance manager Alan Cotter.
Twigg told the Waikato Times today she noticed a slump in form and energy at the Munich World Cup round last month when she failed to make the A final after earlier finishing second at May's first round in Bled, Slovenia.
