Olympic gold medallist Nathan Cohen has withdrawn from Rowing New Zealand's summer training squad as he gets to grips with the heart problem which ruled him out of this year's world championships.
Cohen is among several members of New Zealand's world champs squad omitted from the squad of 45 - 27 men, 18 women - who will assemble at RNZ's high performance centre at Lake Karapiro on September 30.
During the heats of the quadruple scull event at Chungji, South Korea, Cohen's heart went out of rhythm, as he suffered an episode of supreventricular tachycardia.
Cohen, who won the double scull gold with Joseph Sullivan in at the London Olympics last year, is having his condition assessed.
Others omitted from the squad include the entire men's four, who were a disappointment in the European campaign, and two other members of the quad, Fergus Fauvel and Hayden Cohen, and three of the women's eight.
