World champion rower Hamish Bond was last night named the 2009 New Zealand university sportsperson of the year.
Bond was announced as the overall winner at the Blues Awards ceremony in Wellington, emerging victorious from a field of finalists which included netballer Laura Langman, rugby player Stephen Donald, cyclist Jaime Nielsen, surf lifesaver Nikki Cox and Paralympic swimmer Cameron Leslie.
