Richie McCaw 'feeling remarkably good' after 530km race

One day on from completing the Godzone adventure race in the South Island, former All Blacks captain Richie McCaw is "feeling remarkably good".

He was one of a team fundraising for Cure Kids that yesterday finished in 20th place after more than five days of racing.

McCaw told Mike Hosking his "old feet" were pretty sore after spending five days on them."It was satisfying to cross the finish line."

The team launched their kayaks at Totaranui in the Abel Tasman National Park early yesterday morning as they entered the last stage of the demanding race - a final 35km sea kayak to Kaiteriteri Beach.

The whole course covered a total of 530km.

The New Zealander of the year said the team managed to get around 10 hours sleep during the five-day race.

"Moments there in the middle of the night, climbing up the side of the hill and you wonder what you are doing."

McCaw said it was certainly a test of endurance.

"You go as long and as hard as you want and stop when you want to," he said. "It's amazing how the body can function when you hit its limits and you keep going."
