Former All Black captain Richie McCaw's new employers, Christchurch Helicopters, expect him to take flight as a commercial pilot by early next year.
The sky is the limit for McCaw, who today announced his future plans in securing a commercial helicopter pilot's license with the Christchurch company.
The aviation crew expressed their excitement in welcoming McCaw on board, but said the "down-to-earth" rugby star was no stranger to the skies.
Christchurch Helicopters pilot Kevin Walsh said McCaw should be able to obtain his commercial license in a matter of months, depending on his availability to complete both the practical and theory elements of the course.
McCaw learned to fly with Christchurch Helicopters in 2001, and Mr Walsh said he had become increasingly involved in the business since taking up a position as a director and shareholder in February.
