The first day of the unofficial cricket test between New Zealand A and Sri Lanka A was hampered by rain overnight (NZT), with the hosts moving through to 115 for three at Pallekele.
Showers delayed the start and returned for a spell after lunch before finally ending play altogether mid-afternoon.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl, with Mark Gillespie removing dangerous batsman Kusal Perera for two in the fifth over and then returning to trap captain Dinesh Chandimal lbw for six to finish the day with 2 for 40. Corey Anderson picked up the other wicket of the day during the 40 overs (of 90 scheduled) that were possible.
Kaushal Silva will start day two this afternoon (NZT) on 49 not out with Ashan Priyanjan (23) also at the crease.
