An Australian buyer snapped up Lot 59 at the Karaka yearling sales in Auckland yesterday for a mere $850,000.
David Hayes of Lindsay Park Stud in South Australia was the successful bidder for the bay filly.
At $3.6 million in 2000 Don Eduardo is, by $2 million, the most expensive yearling ever sold at Karaka.
The next dearest was the $1.8 million paid for Colombia two years earlier in 1998.
The sales continue until next Monday.
