Punters are hoping champion mare Winx can make history on Saturday and claim her fourth straight Cox Plate victory.
The Chris Waller-trained runner hasn't been beaten in 28 starts and is a heavy favourite to become the only horse to win the 2040m race four times at Moonee Valley tomorrow.
While she has won the last three editions of the race, it hasn't always been easy. She was almost run down by Humidor a year ago and had a close call in her last race, the Turnbull Stakes, when star jockey Hugh Bowman almost left his run too late.
However, that hasn't deterred punters in the slightest. The biggest bet on her so far is a $20,000 wager at $1.22, as well as bets of $2,000 and $1,000, with more big bets expected before the gates open at 7.00pm tomorrow evening. She also holds 82 per cent of all money to win.
New Zealand will be represented in the race with the Group 1 Livamol Classic winner Savvy Coup taking her place in the eight-horse field. Unsurprisingly, she has been a popular betting proposition with Kiwi punters, with two bets of $2000 and three bets of $1000 for her to finish in the top five at $3.00. She's also the second-best backed runner to win the race, despite being a $35 outsider.
