Zipping will start in his fourth Cox Plate today but stable representative Nick Williams says it is the first time the race has been his target.
Now a 9-year-old, Zipping will be trying to emulate Fields Of Omagh, who won the Moonee Valley showpiece in 2006. Fields Of Omagh ran in five Cox Plates, also winning it as a 6-year-old in 2003, and was runner-up to Savabeel in 2004 and third to Makybe Diva in 2005.
Zipping ran eighth to El Segundo in 2007, was runner-up to Maldivian in 2008 and third to So You Think last year.
"I think he probably is going better than last year," Williams, son of the owner, Lloyd Williams, said. "I think one of the interesting things is that he's by Danehill."
Lloyd Williams' godson Nick Hall will ride Zipping, who drew barrier six in the 10-horse field. He has won the most prizemoney (A$3,630,195) of any runner in the race.
