KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - The float bound for the spelling paddock has been cancelled and two jockeys put on stand-by in the strongest indication yet that Gold Edition will take her place in Saturday's Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm.
Trainer Ron Maund confirmed yesterday that only a wet track would prevent the star Queensland filly from taking on the mares in the final group one race of the season.
"We've cancelled the float we had booked. It was too wet down at the spelling place anyway, it's near Sydney," Maund said. "Weather permitting and if the track is suitable she'll be running on Saturday."
Gold Edition was expected to go for a break after she failed to run out the 1600m of the Queensland Guineas, which followed consecutive seconds in the Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke Handicap.
However, Maund said the 3-year-old did so well that the opportunity to run her in a group one weight-for-age fillies and mares race was too good to refuse.
Kiwi hope Gee I Jane is among the entries while Ipswich Cup winner Sculptor heads the 26 entries for the group three Tattersall's Cup (2200m).
