One of New Zealand racing's most successful training partnerships is about to dissolve.
Tim Butt and Phil Anderson are going their separate ways, with Anderson to leave Premier Stables next Friday.
Anderson, known universally as Prop, has worked for and with Butt for 15 years, the last four in partnership.
During that time they have won 175 races and over $4.5 million in stakes in New Zealand alone, thanks greatly to the deeds of dual New Zealand Cup and Auckland Cup winner Flashing Red.
They have also trained stars like Mr Feelgood, Stunin Cullen, Mountbatten, Foreal and Tribute and have been a huge force on both sides of the Tasman.
Butt says the pair part on good terms.
"It is just the right time for Propto go out on his own and setup his own team," said Butt. "
He has been here a hell of a long time and done a great job but he wants a new challenge.
"He is a good horseman and will make a good trainer under his own name.
"And with the yearling sales just around the corner he should be able to get some horses pretty quickly."
Meanwhile, Butt has nominated both Mr Feelgood and Raglan for the Auckland Cup in March, saying Mr Feelgood will make the trip home from the Sydney Interdominions even though they finish only five days before the March 12 Alexandra Park classic.
