Racing: Winning run continues

Chris Waller continued an amazing run on his home track with a winning double at Rosehill.

Waller's double yesterday was the 15th consecutive Saturday meeting at Rosehill that he has trained at least one winner.

Talented filly Red Tracer showed she was a 3-year-old with plenty of upside when she proved too strong in the Kidney Kids Handicap.

That came just 45 minutes after the Waller-trained Stand To Gain outlasted stablemate Kossack to win the Kidney Kar Rally Handicap (2400m) by a long head.

Waller was in Melbourne for Derby Day at Flemington where he had several runners engaged, including Red Tracer's brother Shellscrape in the Group Two Salinger Stakes.

Stable foreman Peter Muscutt said Red Tracer was showing her own fair share of potential after she defeated Scarf by a neck, with 2 lengths to Valour in third.

"Shellscrape has been a very consistent Group performer for the yard and this filly looks like she's heading the right way too," Muscutt said.

Muscutt believes Red Tracer is also showing enough ability at this stage of her career to suggest she is capable of getting to stakes level.

"She's still fairly immature in herself and has still got quite a bit of developing to do, but there's no reason why she can't step up to the next level," Muscutt said.

Apprentice Nathan Berry worked forward on Red Tracer early in the race to be up outside the leader Valour.

Berry brought up a winning double of his own after earlier guiding the Gerald Ryan-trained 2-year-old Saramenha to a runaway 6 length win in the opening race.
