Memories of the popular New Plymouth galloper Rough Habit came flooding back when Addictive Habit returned to his best form on Saturday.
Addictive Habit ($9), a group two winner in New Zealand, had struggled in two runs since coming to Queensland but was at his best in the Southbank Insurance Brokers Hcp on the Gold Coast. Addictive Habit is by Columbia out of Chasing The Habit, a half-sister to Rough Habit.
Rough Habit's breeder Isabel Roddick and several other partners in the warhorse, are among Addictive Habit's owners.
Trainer Lee Somervell also had a close association with Rough Habit, who won six of his 11 group one races in Queensland during the 1990s.
"When Rough Habit retired we had him for 14 years at the Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge," Somervell said.
