Jeff Wilson was destined to return to the race track.
Ten years ago, the rugby and cricket star signed a professional contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) at an unusual venue - among the throng at Addington Raceway on New Zealand Trotting Cup day. This year he will be back at Addington - as a horse trainer.
Wilson is applying for a training licence for the new racing season from August 1 and will train in partnership with Ray Jenkins, of West Melton, near Christchurch.
He has been assisting Jenkins since shifting to Canterbury three years ago.
Wilson, who inherited an interest in harness racing through his late father, has owned several winners and has also acted as a television frontman for Global television at Addington.
