KEY POINTS:
Don't be put off by Mr Ricky's wide barrier draw in the main pace at Alexandra Park tonight.
Because trainer Gareth Dixon says it should actually suit the tough 4-year-old.
Mr Ricky is chasing back-to-back wins in the $12,000 mobile event, with victory tonight certain to guarantee him a spot in the Harness Jewels in May.
He won like a future open class pacer last time he raced, on Auckland Cup night, and Dixon says he will be fitter again tonight.
"I was a little bit worried on Auckland Cup night that he might be a run short and even though he won he was blowing hard afterwards," said Dixon. "I have given him some solid workouts since and there is no doubt he will be fitter this week."
While Mr Ricky led throughout last start he is actually at his best when able to settle early then apply mid-race pressure to his rivals, which tonight's draw should allow.
"I know it is never easy to win from a wide draw but he is one horse it shouldn't worry. The race carries a Harness Plus bonus, which is why he's here."
Fellow smart 4-year-old Ohoka Moon looks another certain to improve from her last start and looms as the danger to Mr Ricky.
Earlier in the night Dixon faces another tricky draw with Arden Banner in the richest race of the night, the $30,000 Sales Graduette. The juvenile filly has produced two fine seconds in as many starts and has improved.
Arden Banner has the problem of drawing outside likely favourite Rum Ball, who was a costly last-start failure after being savaged in front. The value is Lauraella, who has shown great courage in a short career.
