A debate is brewing in the Yulestar camp even before winning yesterday's cup win sinks in.
Trainer Lorraine Nolan and driver Tony Shaw have differing opinions over whether Yulestar should be given his shot at harness racing's glamour sprint, the Miracle Mile.
The $A400,000 super sprint is just nine days away in Sydney and New South Wales Harness Racing Club officials were falling over themselves to invite the pride of the Taranaki to Sydney.
Shaw wants to go. Nolan sort of wants to go but doesn't know if it is for the best.
"He isn't really a miler and it is awfully close to the NZ Free-For-All this year so we are not sure," said Nolan.
"It would be tough for him to take on sprinters like Courage Under Fire around a small track like that.
"I would really prefer to start in the Free-For-All here, then the Auckland Cup and we are very keen to get back to Melbourne to try and win the Hunter Cup again."
But Shaw says Sydney is the go, even though Yulestar may have problems
bending his giant frame around Harold Park's tight bends.
"Obviously it is Lorraine's decision but I think we should go. It is not every year you get invited to the Miracle Mile."
While Yulestar is not a miler he is so fit he could still pace a 1:55 mile next week, good enough to test Shakamaker and Courage Under Fire.
Should Nolan turn down the invitaton then NSWHRC officials will issue an invitation to either Holmes D G or Agua Caliente after Friday's New Zealand Free-For-All.
Racing: Where to next is the big question now
