Irish trainer Dermot Weld is contemplating another crack at the Melbourne Cup in November with Profound Beauty.
The mare will target the Irish St Leger next start after she maintained her unbeaten record for the season with a stylish win in the group three Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown yesterday.
The 5-year-old finished fifth in Australia's great race at Flemington last year.
Sent out 6-4 second favourite, Profound Beauty's only serious challenger was 11-8 favourite Mourayan but jockey Pat Smullen was always confident as he pushed out the 1-length winner.
Betting agency Stan James made Profound Beauty their 14-1 equal favourite for the Melbourne Cup immediately after her win.
"That was a very impressive performance. She was fit and well today and the race panned out well for her too," Weld said. "I'm sure the second horse will improve and he may not have been at his peak today.
"The Melbourne Cup is a possibility. It's a handicap, so a lot will depend on what handicap mark she'll get but she'll go for the Irish St Leger next.
"She's a mare and I'll try and win as much as I can with her, and we'll see what way she is at that time of the year."
