Tauranga hopeful Arlingtonboulevard stood out in training with a brilliant workout at Matamata yesterday.
Working on a good plough, Arlingtonboulevard (Walker) proved too slick for Vaalu (Nattrass) over 1200m in 1:14.8, 1000m in 59.8 and the final 600m in 34.6.
Trainer Mark Walker has his fingers crossed that Arlingtonboulevard gains a start in the $100,000 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy at Tauranga on Saturday. Her alternative is the Interprovincial Challenge at New Plymouth.
Vaalu will run in the open 1200m at Tauranga.
Captain Kurt (T. Harris) prepared for the three-year-old sprint at Tauranga when partnering Hi Yo Wassup (C. Ormsby) over 1200m in 1:16.8, with the last 1000m taking 1:02.2 and the 600m 35.8. He has thrived since his impressive fresh-up win late last month.
Two more for Tauranga, Temple Hills (Rastrick) and Waitui Bay (Tynan), were paired in a sound workout over 1200m in 1:17.2, the 1000m in 1:02.6 and 600m in 36.2

Using a fast plough, Cross Lease and Alberton Rose completed 1200m in 1:15.5 in preparation for Tauranga on Saturday.
Waikeepadacash, trainer Richard Yuill's other weekend runner, was also sent 1200m but could not be timed. He looks to have thrived since his last-start win at Ellerslie.
Pay The Believer finished his 1200m in 1:22. Arose hit out nicely over 600m in 38.4.
On the sand, Johnnie Yetton went quietly through 1000m in 1:8.
Ngahiiti looked to be coming to hand well when running 600m in 39.9. She should win in this campaign.
* Santoya, who has improved with recent racing, worked attractively at Cambridge yesterday morning. Galloping on a good plough Santoya (Bransakova) completed 800m in a smart 51.
Some sectionals could not be timed because of early-morning fog. Spectacular Icon (Clarke) worked in from the 1200m in 1:22.3, the final 600m in 39.1.
