Chris Waller's Rosehill winning streak is still going strong after Hawk Island led in a stable quinella in the Listed Parramatta Cup yesterday.
Waller believed the Parramatta Cup (2000m) was his best chance of victory on the day and was proven right as Hawk Island downed Alexander Of Hales by 3 lengths.
He has now trained at least one winner at each of the past 23 Saturday meetings on his home track, stretching back to Danleigh's Group One George Ryder Stakes success on April 3 last year.
Hawk Island ($6.50) was one of three Waller-trained runners in the Parramatta Cup and travelled sweetly midfield behind a breakneck tempo set by Fusakeo.
Hugh Bowman let Hawk Island work his way into the race coming to the home turn and by the 300m mark he had hit the front on the outside and then surged clear.
Barlagarney ($8.50) was a half-neck behind Alexander Of Hales ($18) in third place, while Waller's other runner Beijing Boy ($3 fav) struggled with the fast tempo and was never in the hunt, finishing fifth.
Waller is proud of the stable's achievement with next Saturday's Silver Slipper day the next Rosehill meeting.
"It is putting a little bit of pressure on each week but it's good to keep it going."
Sydney's premiership pacesetter believes Hawk Island can go to another level this preparation and is likely to head on a Sydney Cup path.
"He left last preparation at a good level, I think he's back there easily and he could even go to the next level. He's winning on good tracks which he's never done before and he's finishing his races off professionally."
