Despite Tauranga being right-handed and therefore the reverse way of going, Central Districts horses generally have a good record there.
Which is why the two at the top of the field, Yanna Marie and O'Ceirins Angel, appeal in the Ingham-Sears Mercedes Tauranga Classic.
Both arrive with winning form and have shown they are right up there with the best winter performers.
Against their own sex here, Yanna Marie and O'Ceirins Angel are major players tomorrow.
Yanna Marie hasn't previously raced at Tauranga and O'Ceirins Angel missed the money the only time she tried.
Yanna Marie looked stunning, disposing of allcomers at weight-for-age at Wanganui last start, effortlessly powering home in the straight.
She was given no chance when allowed to tail out mid-race at Trentham the time before and actually did well to finish as close as fifth.
Three starts back, she came with a typical big finish to sweep on by them at Riccarton on a day when it wasn't easy to win in the middle of the track where she was.
Her swooping style, particularly late in the day, is probably going to suit the pattern.
O'Ceirins Angel tends to mix her form a little more, but is very smart on her day. It was no mean feat that she lumped 58kg in very testing conditions to win at Trentham last start and, like Yanna Marie, is well suited to the set weights of this race.
Irish Colleen is stepping up to this grade from R90 and is not as suited as some to the set weights she would make a lot of appeal if this was a handicap - but she is talented in the wet and bolted in at Ellerslie last start.
Platinum Zana and Sharp Princess are two further Central Districts horses who have good form.
Glaze is making a massive step up, but she is speedy in the wet.
