Shane Treweek has unfinished business with tomorrow's Railway Stakes at Ellerslie.
Twenty-six years ago to the hour Treweek felt the most disappointing moment of his successful riding career.
Riding the Peter Grieve-owned, Colin Jillings-trained Romantic Bay, Treweek attempted to achieve the seemingly impossible, win the Railway as an apprentice as Jillings himself had done and champion trainer Dave O'Sullivan likewise.
Treweek was beaten in a three-way photo finish with Ardee One and War Like and has never forgotten it.
Tomorrow he can get square. Treweek might only be the strapper, but a win in that format will do just fine.
Treweek, 43, relocated to Australia in 1988 and retired from race riding three years ago with more than 1200 winners.
Strapper is an unfair description, Treweek has been a travelling foreman for Atomic Force's Broadmeadow (NSW) trainer Darren Smith since he retired from riding. He is also one of the horse's biggest fans.
"If he races up to his best they probably can't beat him."
