Danamite, one of the likely Derby favourites at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, continued his preparation impressively at Matamata yesterday.
On a good plough, Danamite went 2000m at a good clip, covering his first 600m in 39.8. He was joined by Catherine for the final 1200 in 1:15.2, the 1000 in 1:2 and 600 in 37.5.
Derby rival Deebee Belle, working on a firm all-weather track, covered 1200m with Casualaire in 1:20.8, the 1000 in 1:5.8 and 600 in 37.8.
On the plough, Risk And Reward and Mohammed Mahal poured on pace from the 1000m in 1:1.8, the 600 in 35.8. Nadir Shah and Vino Veritas matched strides over 1200 in 1:16.5, the 600 in 37.
Jaiapeno and Kwik Lass sprinted 1000m in 1:2.8, the 600 in 37.8. Cimmamon Girl and Tanzara dashed 800 in 49.5, the 600 in 36.
Zonda strode evenly once round, the final 1200m in 1:22.8 and 600 in 39.8. Cronus did similar work in 1:22.8 and 40.5.
Esprit De Corps worked once round, the last 1200m in 1:22 and 600 in 38.8. Mestre and Le Danse covered 1200 in 1:16.2, the 600 in 37.5.
Unraced Magic Rose showed promise at Te Awamutu, running 1000m with a McGinty filly on a good plough in 1:1.2, the 600 in a smart 35.9.
The Heroine went fast early over 1200m, the 1000 in 1:2 and 600 in 38.2. Tristate hit out keenly over 1000 in 1:2.2, the 600 in 36.7.
Kat Ballou and Paolino sprinted smartly on a fast plough at Takanini, taking 1:0.5 for 1000m and 36.7 from the 600.
Authenticity ran 1000m in 1:2.2, the 600 in 36.2. My Willie Montague and Vulpine did 1600, the last 1200 strongly in 1:16.7 and 600 in 37.
St Tiara cut out 1000m in 1:1.7, the 600 in 37.6. Sir Clive furthered his Derby preparation with a solid 1600m, the last 1000 in 1:2.6 and 600 in 38.4.
Green Light, who fraces at Awapuni on Saturday, and Te Rapa candidate Trifox did well at Cambridge to run 1000m on a slow plough in 1:8, the 600 strongly in 39.
Three Kings and Ronstat cut out the last 600m of 1000 boldly in 41.8. Roma Lad and Sadonic covered 1000 in 1:9, the 600 in 43.6.
On the sand, Honestly dashed 800m freely in 51. Rice Terrace and Star Angel followed in 52.
Ballyreel, who is nominated for Awapuni on Saturday and for Ellerslie on Boxing Day, had a solid workout over a circuit (1780m) of a good plough at Te Aroha, taking 1:57.2, the 1200 in 1:20 and 600 in 38.7.
Last-start winner Los Bravos showed he had thrived by dashing 800m in 52.7, the 600 in 39.5. Bordello and Wandawren were kept up to their work over 1000 in 1:1.5, the 600 in 38.
Stablemates Country Fair, Noble Prospect and Country Belle worked well on a good plough at Te Rapa.
Country Fair strode 1400m in 1:31.4, the 600 in 40.4. Noble Prospect did 1200 in 1:15.9 (39.3) and Country Belle, 1200 in 1:16.2 (38.5).
Samboa sprinted 1000m in 1:1.2, the 600 stylishly in 37.3. Hakkinen went 800 steadily in 58.7, the 600 in 44.1. Heiss sprinted 600 in 38.1.
War Paint impressed at Avondale when running 800m with Merchant Banker on a fast plough in 51.3, the 600 in 35.4.
