Te Awamutu trainers Robert Priscott and Clayton Chipperfield know how tough a racehorse Elblitzem is and punters found that out at Matamata yesterday.
The 6-year-old was far from disgraced when a fighting fourth behind Who Knows at Hastings. Seven days later he effortlessly won the $50,000 (Listed) Matamata Cup.
Veteran jockey David Walsh gave Elblitzem every winning chance settling in fourth position and quickly pouncing on the leaders in the home stretch scoring by 1 lengths over Kuda Mahal with a further half-length back to Waitui Music (third).
Walsh took full advantage of Elblitzem's on-the-pace racing style while many of the other favoured runners got too far back in the field.
A tough return trip to Hastings did not appear to have affected Elblitzem who has now scored seven wins and 12 minor placings from 36 starts.
MATAMATA TRAINERS Lance Noble and John Sargent were in dominant form.
Noble won two races with Attalla (James McDonald) and Headsup (Vinnie Colgan) while Sargent picked up victories with Best Reilly and Passchendaele (Mark Du Plessis).
JOCKEY OF THE MOMENT Buddy Lammas was again in dominant form when producing a brilliant front running ride on O'Ceirins Angel to win the $80,000 (Group Three) Postponed Classic at Hawera.
O'Ceirins Angel made it back-to-back wins in the feature fillies and mares weight-for-age event where she dictated the running.
The 6-year-old was tracked by the hot favourite Culminate who had her chances and got within one length of the winner with a further three-quarters of a length back to Pennacchio.
Lammas took centre stage at Hastings last Saturday when combining with Vosne Romanee to win the $1.2 million Kelt Capital Stakes.
Lammas produced a patient ride to win the Kelt Stakes settling Vosne Romanee perfectly in a midfield racing position tracking the hot favourite Daffodil. Yesterday Lammas showed another of his vast array of riding skills, producing a clinical front-running ride to steal the Group Three event.
