New Zealand-based thoroughbred sire Danasinga is returning to Australia.
New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing reported yesterday that Danasinga had been sold and would be relocated to Baerami Stud in New South Wales. No price was disclosed.
Danasinga was bred in Australia and raced there. He finished his career with a timely victory in the group one 1996 Stadbroke Handicap (1400m) in Brisbane when trained by Lee Freedman.
Following that victory, Danasinga was retired to take on a breeding career at Waikato Stud in Matamata.
Danasinga quickly made an impression by becoming New Zealand's champion first-season sire for the 1999-00 season when his stock included group two Matamata Breeders' Stakes winner Conquistar.
His first crop also included the following season's New Zealand Filly of the Year, Singalong, and group one 2003 Brisbane Cup winner Piachay.
Waikato Stud manager Mark Chittick said the 13-year-old, by Danehill, would be a loss.
"We'll miss him, no doubt," Chittick said.
"He left stock that ran for you at two and were still running at five and six years. He was a very fertile stallion."
