One of Australia's top young jockeys has died in a fall from a Singapore apartment block.
The 22-year-old Tim Bell, who won the Brisbane jockey premiership in his first senior season, plunged to his death on Tuesday night. He was trying to climb up to the 12th floor apartment after being locked out and tripped, according to an Australian Broadcasting Corporation report.
Bell won the 2013/14 Brisbane premiership. Queensland's racing CEO Ian Hall said Bell was a "brilliant rider".
"It is tragic when someone so young and with so much talent is taken away from us," Hall said.
Bell had just taken a three-month riding contract in Singapore to further his career and his goals included winning the Melbourne Cup and becoming one of the world's top jockeys, according to the Queensland Jockeys' Association president Glen Prentice.
