The New Zealand Bloodstock national yearling Select Sale finished at Karaka, South Auckland, on Friday, with the average price up 20 per cent on last year.
The top price was $200,000 for a Van Nistelrooy colt from Thunder Gulch mare Shades Of Silk, bought by Dr Omie Rangabashyan of Singapore.
The three-day Select Sale brought in $28,839,500 from 483 yearlings sold from 659 offered, up 33 per cent on last year's turnover.
The final average price of $59,709 was 20 per cent up on last year's record average of $49,715, which, in turn, was 44 per cent up on 2006. This year's median price was $48,000, up 14 per cent.
The sale's top price was the $300,000 paid on Thursday for a Scaredee Cat colt from My Kinda Girl, a record for the Select Sale. The number of sales to top $100,000 leaped from 41 last year to 72, with 14 of them selling for $200,000 or more compared with just one in that bracket last year.
"There was a clear flow-on effect from the staggering results of the Premier Sale into this session and we're delighted to have posted another set of record figures," NZB marketing manager Petrea Vela said.
The leading buyer at the Select Sale was Paul Moroney Bloodstock with 15 horses bought for $1.27 million.
His top buy was $200,00 for a Pentire filly from unraced Zabeel mare Close Embrace.
Lion Heart was the top sire, with his three lots selling for an average of about $183,000, with a top price of $230,000, while O'Reilly had 17 lots sold for an average of $134,500.
