Cambridge horseman Murray Baker is far from confident The Heckler can make a winning return to racing in tomorrow's $25,000 LJ Hooker Whangarei Spring Plate at Ruakaka.
The Heckler was a group one winner of the Manawatu Sires last season, but Baker believes the youngster is up against it as a 3-year-old tomorrow.
"He's facing some older horses and they might just be too tough for him.
"I don't have any choice but to run him because there are no other options to kick off these 3-year-olds over 1200m," he said last night.
The Heckler, winner of three of his five juvenile starts and more than a little unlucky in another group one race, has 53kg tomorrow.
What worries Baker is that 4-year-old Mill Duckie has the same weight.
"There are a couple of outstanding types facing him and I'm not sure he can manage them at this stage."
The vastly experienced Who Knows could also reveal his lack of ringcraft.
