KEY POINTS:
Some of the biggest names in harness racing warmed up for the rich assignments ahead at the Alexandra Park trials yesterday and they did not disappoint.
Champion trotting mare One Over Kenny was never out of second gear when downing Genius in the two-horse 2700m open trot.
She only trotted a sedate 3:36.9 and cruised her last 800m in 58.4 but her manners, which let her down last start at Cambridge, were faultless.
She leaves this weekend for Melbourne where she is the $1.50 favourite for the Interdominion Trotting Final on March 1.
Later in the programme stablemate Monkey King and Baileys Dream all but dead heated in the main pace.
The pair both impressed breaking 2:45 for the 2200m, beating Sly Flyin and former US pacer Spirit Of A Shark.
Trainer Steven Reid was particularly happy with Monkey King as the superstar has paraded looking slightly fatter than usual.
"I thought he might have got away on me a little but I am a lot happier now," said Reid.
Monkey King is the $4.50 favourite for the Auckland Cup on March 7 and he and Baileys Dream will race at Alexandra Park next week, where they could clash with One Dream.
