Racing: Te Teko preparation in Advanced stage

Advanced drew attention to his prospects at Te Teko on Sunday when he worked well at Matamata yesterday, where continuing heavy rain meant fast work was kept to a minimum.

On the course proper, which was soft 25 metres out, Advanced (Dowling) was travelling strongly at the finish of 1200m in 1:24.2 and 600m in 40. He looks in good order for the maiden 1400m event at Te Teko.

Twopaddocks (Rastrick) and Snip (Bridgeman) also shaped well for Te Teko when paired over a solid 1200m in 1:19.5, the final 600m in 40.5. Roaring Jake (M. Brosnan) caught the eye over 1000m in 1:07.2, the last 600 in 39.5, while Waitui Bay (Tynan) took 1:08.4 and 40.6.

Blink (Tynan) and Pinafore (Rastrick) turned in good work for Avondale on Monday when they cut out 1000m in 1:08.8, the last 600 in 39. Another for that meeting, All My Colours (Carmine), and Diamond Striker (Andrew) did well over the same distance in 1:06.8 and 39.4.

Cut The Cake (Coleman), a runner in the Summer Cup at Trentham tomorrow, got through 1200m in 1:26.2, the final 600 in 41. Over the same ground Waitui Magic (Hayes) began keenly to run 1:18.2 and 40.5, Allegory (Coleman) and Lion Star (Davidson) clocked 1:24.4 and 40.4, Healing Kiss (Ramsey) took 1:28 and 41.5, Aleutian (Russell) 1:25.2 and 40.1, and Illicitly (Dowling) 1:31.8 and 45.2.

Xcellent (Coleman) was travelling impressively over the final stages of 1200m in 1:28 and 600 in 42.1. He is doing everything right in preparation for his return to racing in the Waikato Draught Sprint. Stablemate Genebel (Coleman) indicated her progress with 1200m in 1:24.9 and 600 in 41.6.

On the sand, which was loose, Te Teko candidate Pennies For Us (M. Brosnan) ran good time with Prized Asset (McKay), clocking 1:03.8 for 1000m and 38.4 for the final 600m.

Vaalu (Nattrass), a likely runner at Avondale, ran the last 1000m of his work in 1:08.2 and 600 in 39.4. Young Centaur (Waddell) prepared for Trentham with 800m in 52.7 and 600 in 37.8.

Black Panther and Promethean completed 1200m in 1:17.5, the last 1000 in 1:2.5 and 600 in 36.6.

Tight Genes was clear of Towzie in the finish of 800m in 52.7, the final 600 in 37.

British Made covered 1200m in 1:19.8, the closing 600 in 39.1.

Working about 25m out from the nearest markers on an easy course proper, Laurette galloped attractively through 1200m in 1:20.8, the last 600 in 37.2.

Tantalic ran the last 1000m of 1200 in 1:3.3 and 600 in 39.4. Angel's Whisper and Ready To Fire finished their 1200m in 1:21, the last 600 in 38.6.

* Wellington Cup topweight Viz Vitae showed he was at peak fitness when working 10 metres out on a slow No.1 grass at Cambridge yesterday.

Viz Vitae (Robson) and highly promising stablemate Zed (Cropp) matched strides from the l000m in l:6.4, the final 600m in 40.7. Both were travelling comfortably throughout.

Paixinato (Hughes), a Trentham runner, worked well over 1400m in 1:30.8, sprinting the final 600m in 35.7, the quickest gallop of the morning. La Sizeranne (Calder) worked in from the 800m in 56.1. She is in first-class order.

America's Cup (Norvall) strode comfortably over l400m in l:42.l, the last 600m in 43.

Pulcinella (Wall) looked in excellent heart for the Desert Gold Stakes when working in from 800m in 54.6.
