Richard Yuill will be targeting a lot of the early season 3-year-old races next season with the consistent Waikeepadacash.
The 2-year-old colt scored a well-deserved victory in the $10,000 D J O'Sullivan Salver at Ellerslie yesterday. Another pleasing aspect of the race for the Takanini trainer was the performance of the fourth placed stable runner Breezed.
"Waikeepadacash has been a very consistent 2-year-old for the stable this season and he was right at the top of his game today to win this race.
"I do think he races at his best when there is a bit of give in the ground and I'm looking forward to racing him next season as a 3-year-old.
"I think a lot of the early season 3-year-old races like the Wanganui and Hawkes Bay Guineas will be ideal races for this horse. He's an on the pace runner and if he strikes a track with any give in it he'll be right in the finish."
The D'cash-sired colt has scored one win and four minor placings from six starts with his only unplaced performance being an eighth behind Wahid in the $500,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Classique at Te Rapa on February 5.
Breezed settled well back off the speed and made up a stack of ground through the middle of the field in the home stretch.
The Fusaichi Pegasus-sired filly was blocked at a critical stage and ran on well out wide at the finish.
