The New Zealand racing industry is about to reap the rewards from Australian bettors.
It has been trialling a system where the betting bodies of both countries are linked, meaning a bigger pool for punters.
The co-mingling agreement with Tabcorp will be extended from next week to all New Zealand thoroughbred, harness and greyhound races broadcast by Sky in Australia. The agreement only covers race followers in Victoria, Western Australia, the ACT and Tasmania at the moment.
Since June last year, bets placed with the New Zealand TAB on co-mingled races have added about $200 million to the Australian SuperTAB pool.
It has made it easier for New Zealanders to follow the fortunes of home-grown horses, jockeys and trainers throughout their Australian campaigns.
