Glen bosS was gobsmacked super colt So You Think won the A$3 million ($3.7m) Cox Plate at only his fifth start.
Boss won his first Cox Plate aboard champion Makybe Diva four years ago.
"Honestly if he'd run third I'd have been rapt," he said.
"This is unbelievable, I'm a bit gobsmacked because I didn't expect to win this race.
"When I won on Makybe Diva I expected her to win. This has come completely from left field really.
"I had the belief he had a lot of raw talent. But I honestly had no belief that I could win the race. I just thought he'd run a really good race. He's a cracking colt for the autumn."
"But when Bart [Cummings] talks you listen.
"I expressed my concerns to Bart that he was inexperienced and he said 'well yeah, he's inexperienced but he's got so much raw ability'."
Boss admitted he had no set plan with So You Think but no rivals showed any urgency. He was very confident he had the race won 800m from home because So You Think was travelling so well.
