Sunline's jockey, Greg Childs, has been stung with a huge fine for comments he made after his Hong Kong Mile win on the champion mare two weeks ago.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club last night fined Childs $A70,000 ($88,000) after finding him guilty of behaviour prejudicial to the integrity and reputation of racing in the Chinese territory.
Childs was quoted in a Sydney newspaper last week as saying he had spoken to rival jockey Justin Sheehan, who rode Adam, and the pair had agreed not to engage in a speed duel in the December 17 feature race at the Sha Tin track.
Sunline led and Adam sat outside her during the slow, early stages of the race.
Sunline just held out the late charge of local favourite Fairy King Prawn to win, with Adam finishing third.
The fine is slightly more than the winning riding fee that Childs would have been paid and is believed to be a record for an Australasian jockey.
"I am bitterly disappointed with the result because I feel I have done nothing wrong in mentioning to Justin how I was going to ride Sunline," said Childs, a New Zealander based in Melbourne.
"I was only stating what the trainer of Sunline [Trevor McKee] had already said publicly."
