Genuine Harness Jewels contenders will be thin on the ground at Cambridge tonight which makes Suidelike Meisie the standout anchor in the $75,000 Pick6.
The high-class mare resumes on her home track with a view to the 4-year-old mares division of the Harness Jewels at Ashburton on June 4, a division which has been thrown wide open by the withdrawal of hot favourite De Lovely.
That has seen Suidelike Meisie promoted to fourth favourite for the division and considering she was competitive against the best mares over the summer she could even start second favourite behind Lancome come the big day.
Which means she should clean up a weakish 2-5 wins field in race eight at Cambridge tonight.
Trainer Mike Berger has been wary of over-taxing the speedy mare this campaign, giving her just a quiet workout last Saturday.
"I didn't want to do too much with her because she goes her best races fresh," said Berger.
"I keep thinking she might be a run short this week but I have thought that in the past and she has won well fresh-up."
Suidelike Meisie has high gate speed and over 1700m could be expected to go forward and dominate a race where none of her rivals has competed at anything like the level she has. While Suidelike Meisie looks one Pick6 anchor, punters chasing the jackpot, which has been inflated by the TAB for the month of May, need to go wider in other legs.
The first leg features a racing rarity which you may not see repeated for a few seasons.
Juvenile Highview Johnny is drawn alongside 12-year-old maiden Kiwi Courage, surely one of the few times in racing history two horses born 10 years apart have scored up next to each other in a maiden race.
Meanwhile, it is expected to be at least a month before any hearing into Smoken Up's Interdominion positive swab is started.
The B sample for the swab returned a positive to DMSO this week, placing Smoken Up's Interdominion Pacing Final win last month in severe jeopardy.
Charges will now be laid against trainer Lance Justice but racing bosses say a hearing is at least four weeks away.
