Pakiri Beach-based trainer Sue Martin had an extremely busy and successful day of racing in the Auckland area.
Martin had two racehorses loaded onto her truck yesterday - a standardbred pacer and thoroughbred - and both won their respective engagements at Alexandra Park and Avondale.
The three-year-old pacing filly Highland Rach easily took out a qualifying trial at Alexandra Park but Martin and her "support crew" did not have long to celebrate.
They had to travel to Avondale and saddle up Run Like The Wind to compete in the $7000 Aussie Butcher Henderson 1200.
Run Like The Wind delivered a determined front running victory in the 1200 metre event scoring by a long neck Milena with a further 4 3/4 lengths back to Katla (third).
"Run Like The Wind is the only galloper we have in the stable and he can be a handful to handle at times," said Martin. "It took four of us to saddle him up before the race but he'll settle down with a bit more racing experience.
"I've had my thoroughbred training licence for a number of years and it's a sport I do enjoy."
Martin races Run Like The Wind with her partner Neil Brady who is training and racing two standardbred pacers in Victoria, Australia.
Martin and Brady have had outstanding success in harness racing particularly with champion pacing filly Elect To Live on racetracks throughout Australasia.
