New Zealanders Wall Street and Mufhasa have a frightening statistic to overcome in tomorrow's A$400,000 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill.
In the race's 38-year history not one New Zealand-trained horse has won the group one event.
Some of Australia's finest have taken the George Ryder - Emancipation, Manikato and Lonhro each won it twice and significant winners have been Schillaci, Haradasun and Weekend Hussler.
Mufhasa gave it his best shot last year when he finished third to Danleigh and Dao Dao on an unsuitable rain-affected track.
Michael Rodd replaces usual jockey Sam Spratt on Mufhasa (running as King Mufhasa in Oz) this time with Craig Williams being engaged for Wall Street. Mufhasa has never had a great deal of luck in Australia.
On February 26 he finished a good third, beaten 2.3 lengths, by topliners More Joyous and Whobegotyou in the group one Futurity in Melbourne.
Wall Street was almost certainly feeling a very firm track when beaten by Keep The Peace in the group one Haunui Farm Classic at Otaki last start. He has had plenty of time to recover from that.
In an even betting race, Australian bookmakers have the Mick Price-trained Aloha the $6 favourite.
